Buying a home vs. renting, which one should you do

I was doing a study for a client of mine and we started talking about buying a home. Then the conversation went renting a home or an apartment. We thought and talked solidly of doing either or.

There are homebuyers, people who want to buy a home, and there are renters and people who don’t mind to renting a home or an apartment. There is a lot of pro and cons for both or either. But the real question to you. Are you a homebuyer type of person or do you prefer to rent? Some people get that question confused.

First of all, there is nothing wrong with renting. On the average, the person who rents is saving about $5,000 per year. That is right, that is a big savings, especially if you have a tight budget. Why do I say that? Well, you don’t have to pay for home insurance, property taxes, repairs, garden equipment, home maintenance, decorating a home, buying lots of furniture, and anything that comes with a home. All that adds up.

As a renter, you don’t have to worry about nothing that comes with a home, something breaks, and it’s fixed. Your property taxes are paid for. You don’t have to buy too much furniture and decorating is to a minimal. But what makes a lot of people shriek about the idea, about renting; they don’t want to follow rules. Well I’m sorry to tell you but there are rules that you deal with every day of your life. You just don’t see it right away.

Now, lots of people argue that the investment in a home will work out at the end. But remember the definition of mortgage. It is said, “To pay until death”. If you buy a home, pay it off quickly. So you can enjoy the benefits of the home and the investment you made. Even if you pay the home off, your property taxes are going to be paid for life or until you move out of the house.

Life changes for all of us, our income becomes good and then it goes down. We live well and then we don’t. I’ve done both, rented and bought a home but the lesson that I learned that if you can afford it and you know what your money would flow easily; buying is the best for you. But if your history has a roller coaster ride of ups and downs, especially with money, then renting would be the best.

But whatever your decision of what kind of home you want. You must control it and work with it and do what is best for you and your family. No matter what, you still have to pay a mortgage or rent. No matter what, you’ve got to live somewhere and no matter what you have to have a roof over you head.

It’s not an easy decision to make but I wanted to write about this subject because lots of people are losing there home and trying to figure out what to do. I hope this helps to help you make a decision that is right for you.
